  • Program Pause: How long is it and when will applications reopen?
AAAH's applications for the Cooling Portland free AC program are paused as of January 2024. We anticipate that applications will reopen on our website some time in April 2024, prior to our warmest months in Portland. If you reside in a building managed by a housing provider, please contact your local office to see if they are currently accepting applications. For all other inquiries, please reach out to a participating community based organization (CBO) or call 211 for other partners in your area.
  • How do I switch between heating and cooling?
Mode Button Controls the 4 function modes: COOL, HEAT, FAN, and DEHUMIDIFY. Press to change mode.
  • How to I drain the excess water from the reservoir?
When there is excess water condensation inside the unit, the air conditioner stops running and shows a warning light (refer to page 8 of the Whynter manual). This warning light indicates that the water condensation needs to be drained using one of the following procedures: • Manual drainage (Fig. 2a) Turn off the unit. Carefully roll the unit to a drain location or position a flat container, dish or optional drain bucket accessory (sold separately) under the drain area of the lower drain port. Remove the drain cover and rubber plug and the condensed water will drain out automatically. Once all the condensed water is drained, replace the drain rubber plug and cover into the drain firmly. • Continuous Gravity drainage option (Fig. 2b) Remove the upper drain plug from the back of the unit and install the drain hose (sold separately). Place the open end of the hose to a drain area. This method is recommended if uninterrupted operation is desired. • Auto Pump drainage option (Fig. 2c) This unit has a condensate pump feature that can pump out (and up) water through the included drain hose for continuous water removal. Remove the pump drain plug from the back of the unit and install the drain hose. Place the open end of the hose to a drain area. • How to I clean the filter?
Your Whynter portable air conditioner is equipped with a washable Pre-Filter and an Activated Carbon Filter. The washable Pre-Filter removes large particles such as dust, pet hair and dander. The Activated Carbon filter is designed to remove smoke and other odors. Do not ever operate your unit without an air filter. It is recommended you replace the Activated Carbon filter every 2-3 months or as needed. Follow the steps below to install the filters. 1. Pull up the pre-filter frame (Fig. 1a) 2. Place the activated carbon filter on the pre-filter frame by inserting it through the three pins (Fig. 1b) 3. Once the activated carbon filter is secured, insert the assembled filter frame into the unit.

  • What is the best way to store my unit if I take it down?
This portable air conditioner comes with one end of season storage cover. We highly recommend that storage cover bag is utilized when the unit is not going to be used for a period of time. WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this bag away from babies and children. · Switch off the air conditioner and disconnect the power plug from the power supply outlet before cleaning the air conditioner · Clean the air filters · Drain the condensed water completely · Wrapped the power cord and bundle it with the tape · On a warm day, turn on the Fan only mode for half a day so that the inside can dry out completely · Remove the batteries from the remote controller · If leaving the window kit in place, disconnect the exhaust and intake hose from the window slider kit and place the included covers on the fixtures. To remove the hose connectors from the fixtures on the window kit, slightly turn, push and gently pull the connector to release. Otherwise, remove the window kit from the window opening Note: Depending on use, it is recommended that the air conditioner be cleaned internally annually. Please contact Whynter at support@whynter.com for internal maintenance cleaning instructions.
  • My unit does not appear to be working, what should I do?
Try draining the excess water reservoir and changing the filter on your unit. The unit reservoir can fill during humid conditions and will prevent use until it is drained again. If the problem persists after draining and changing the air filter, refer to the Whynter AC Unit manual provided with your unit at the time of install, or download a copy using the link on our FAQ page (underneath the video).
