On Saturday, May 18th, and Sunday, May 19th 2024 AAAH provided free bulk item disposal services for 30 BIPOC residents living in NxNE Portland. Free pickups took place throughout the weekend, primarily serving our 55+ neighbors, those with mobility impacting disabilities, and those making less than 80% of Portland's area median income (AMI). This event reduces fall risks, fire hazards, improves sanitation, accessibility, and overall enjoyment of our neighbor's homes while assisting our elderly community members as they age in place.

Thank you to the City of Portland, Metro, 24/7 Portland Movers, ReBuilding Center, and De La Salle North Catholic High School, and volunteers for making this event possible!

Day of Service 2023

Bernieta Team.jpg

Each year AAAH and ReBuilding Center partner with teams of community volunteers to provide free home repairs, yard maintenance, and bulky waste removal for our neighbors in NxNE Portland. For our 2023 event, we served nine (!) homes on a single Saturday, our most homes to date. Projects ranged from re-wiring sockets, power washing, tree-trimming, repairing wooden stairs, building a handrail, planter boxes, debris removal, a total garage clean-out, and many more! We couldn't have done it without the amazing 90+ volunteers who participated this year and our skilled friends at ReBuilding Center. Thank you to CCCU for sponsoring this event and to all who attended our most successful DOS yet!

On Saturday, May 27th, 2023 from 9am-3pm AAAH's community partners removed hard to dispose of items from the homes of Portlanders who have not had equitable access to waste elimination. A large Drop Box (dumpster) onsite in the ReBuilding Center's parking lot was available for free disposal of bulk waste, furniture, appliances, cardboard, mattresses, bed frames, box springs, building materials, bagged yard debris, and more. AAAH is also provided free pick-up services all day for folks with mobility limitations in NxNE Portland! For either option, registration and prior approval from AAAH staff was required.
